- ZOE CROSHER, photography. Zoe Crosher’s photographs of Los Angeles, currently on view at 65Grand, evoke a sort of anonymity and dispassion implicit to contemporary urban life. The isolation and resulting lethargy of metropolises such as Los Angeles--or our own Chicago--is well-worn territory. Crosher’s series "LA-LIKE," however, is far from the same old rehashed post-industrial landscape, and her exhibition is well worth both detailed viewing and careful consideration. Implementing a carefully selected and considered perspective—one which seems to inexhaustibly search out those details which distinguish the eye of the photographer from that of the typical urban viewer--the experience of viewing Crosher’s work is a revelatory experience. The artist has shown her work extensively in both New York and Los Angeles, and 65Grand’s exhibition is her first solo showing in Chicago. The exhibition includes both works from "LA-LIKE" and a new project entitled "Fools Gold," which builds upon her critically applauded earlier work on Los Angeles, intelligently exploring the contrast between artifice and reality.
